Don't you hate it when after watching a bad movie you feel like you've wasted two hours? What about a bad book? If you're like me then it probably takes you longer to read a book than watch a movie. So why waste your limited time on this planet reading bad books?

And now a word to you aspiring writers. What you write will most likely be influenced by what you've been reading. All great men and women stand on the shoulders of giants, so don't be the one standing on the shoulders of midgets. If you do, you too will be a midget.

So you might be wondering what makes me think I have any better idea who is a good writer than the next guy. I honestly don't, so that's why I've come up with the most unbiased approach I can: Amazon reviews. You're probably thinking, "Amazon reviews?! Yeah right! I've bought things from Amazon with 4.5 stars that were total garbage." And you're right. We've all been there. That's why I felt excited when I stumbled upon a simple formula for determining the REAL value of items on Amazon. I ran this formula on all the items I've purchased on Amazon over the years and its quite remarkable how well it identified which items were garbage and which were top-notch.

The way I determine the quality of a book on Amazon is by using just some simple math which gives each book a numeric score. I then sort all the books of an author by that score. The way I get the score is by dividing the sum of good reviews (4 or 5 stars) by the sum of bad ones (1, 2, or 3 stars). I only include books with a score of 9.0 or higher. The way I grade the writers in Top Writers list is based on each writer's highest scoring book. That's all there is to it, but I think like me, you'll see the results are remarkable.
